May 4, 2021 - Chairman of the Board of the Missouri Transportation and Development Council (MTD) Rod Reid and Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM) President/CEO Ray McCarty participated in a rally today in support of providing additional transportation funding. The event was organized by the Missourians for Transportation Investment, a group led by Jeff Glenn.
More than 100 supporters of transportation funding gathered at the event in the Missouri Capitol. Following a briefing and introduction on the House floor, the group individually visited their elected representatives to garner support for SB 262. Chair of the House Transportation Committee Rep. Becky Ruth introduced the group to the Missouri House.
SB 262, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz, would increase motor fuel taxes by 2.5 cents per gallon each year for 5 years (totaling 12.5 cents per gallon when fully phased in) and provide more than $500 million in transportation funding before refunds. The bill would allow motor fuel purchasers to retain their receipts and obtain a refund if they desire, very similar to the current process for obtaining refunds for taxes paid on fuel used in boats and off-road vehicles.
