We told you previously Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM) has been working constantly since before the end of the last legislative session in May to secure a COVID liability protection bill that would protect honest business operators from frivolous lawsuits regarding COVID exposure.
AIM has worked through the Missouri Civil Justice Reform Coalition, joining numerous business groups in this effort, and it appears our efforts have paid off.
Our ongoing meetings with the Governor's staff indicate the Governor has met with legislative leaders and will expand the call of the current special session to include this important protection. The language we have been working on will provide protection if the business owners follow federal and state guidelines that are in effect at the time.
"Final details of the COVID protection will be worked out through the legislative process, but we are very encouraged by our meetings with Governor Parson and legislative leaders in the House and Senate," said Ray McCarty, president and CEO of Associated Industries of Missouri.
Here is an article with more details on the letter we sent to Governor Parson October 8 asking for the issue to be dealt with in a special session between the elections and the end of the calendar year.
We expect action on the bill to commence as early as next week. Stay tuned for updates...
