Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Missouri Zel M. Fischer, delivered his State of the Judiciary address Wednesday morning, January 30, 2019, during a joint session of the Missouri General Assembly in Jefferson City, Missouri.
His address discussed the need to be “smart” on crime and deal with the inflating prison population and the importance of treatment for drug and alcohol addiction related offenses. The address dealt with justice for veterans who find themselves on the wrong side of the law due to various factors and how to deal with the underlying issues. In addition, changes to Missouri’s pretrial release system were announced.
