President-elect Donald Trump has selected former St. Louisan and CKE Restaurants CEO Andy Puzder to be secretary of labor.
Puzder attended law school at Washington University before beginning his legal career in St. Louis. In 2000, he became president and CEO of CKE Restaurants, parent company of Hardee’s Food Systems Inc. and the Carl’s Jr. hamburger chain. Earlier this year, Puzder left St. Louis for Nashville.
“Andy Puzder has created and boosted the careers of thousands of Americans, and his extensive record fighting for workers makes him the ideal candidate to lead the Department of Labor,” Trump said in a statement.
Puzder has been critical of Obama administration policies, such as the push for higher minimum wage and new overtime rules. He has said regulations are stifling growth in the restaurant industry.
