The deadline to pass a surface transportation reauthorization falls on September 30, 2020. While the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has advanced a highway title, significant work remains for the other congressional committees of jurisdiction.
Additionally, the Highway Trust Fund will not go bankrupt until 2021. It is currently unclear how the Coronavirus stimulus efforts will impact infrastructure legislation, however it could be the pathway for passing key authorization measures such as a surface transportation reauthorization or highway bill.
