Senate sends bill on burden of proof to governor

A big victory for businesses and all taxpayers in Missouri, as the State Senate Thursday votes to send a bill that shifts the burden of proof in tax disputes to the Department of Revenue.

By a 30-0 vote, the Senate sent House Bill 1455, sponsored by House Speaker Pro Tem Denny Hoskins on to Governor Nixon.

Legislation on this subject has been a priority for AIM and many legislators for most of this session. Paired with this idea has been legislation that clarifies what businesses may be assessed sales taxes. All of the bills are aimed at forcing the Department of Revenue into maximum transparency when it comes to dealing with tax payers.
