The Hill (7/7, Henry) reports that Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman James Inhofe (R-OK) has sent an eight-page letter to the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Army Corps of Engineers asking them to provide “further scientific justification” for their joint rule asserting regulatory authority over US waterways.

“To understand both the rationale behind the final rule, and its scope, I asked EPA and the Corps to provide the documents they relied on to develop this rule,” The Hill quotes Inhofe as saying. It explains that the senator considers the Waters of the United States rule to be “too broad” and gives regulators “power over waterways based on birds’ consumption and excretion of seeds.
