Owensville STEM students win national award for school safety design

The Gasconade R-II School District will be getting $100,000 worth of technology from Samsung after winning the company’s “Solve for Tomorrow” competition.

The annual contest invites student innovators to come up with technical solutions to common problems.

Under the supervision of professional engineers from LMI Aerospace in Washington, Missouri, a team of Owensville STEM class students including Paige Tayloe, Jonah Hoffman, and Trey Fisher developed a door latch that can keep classroom doors closed, even if an intruder manages to break the door lock.
