Ray McCarty, president/CEO of Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM), and Haley Castelvecchi, Director of Communications for AIM, were present for the oral arguments in two local minimum wage cases before the Missouri Supreme Court on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
The first case heard by the court involved a proposed minimum wage hike in the City of Kansas City. Case #SC95368 asks the Court to decide whether the Circuit Court should have removed a proposed local minimum wage ordinance from the November 2015 ballot. There are also issues of the constitutionality of the proposed local wage ordinance, and two state statutes.
AIM is a plaintiff in the second case #SC95401 challenging the St. Louis minimum wage ordinance. AIM supports the Circuit Court opinion of the Honorable Judge Steven Ohmer that the City ordinance was “void and unenforceable as in conflict with Section 71.010,RSMo and Missouri’s Minimum Wage Law, Sections 290.500 to 290.530, RSMo.”
