Missouri Legislature gives final approval to REAL ID option bill

Rep. Kevin Corlew

A bill to allow people to obtain Missouri driver licenses that are compliant with the federal REAL ID law has passed the House and Senate and is on its way to the governor. The bill is HB 151, sponsored by Rep. Kevin Corlew and handled in the Senate by Senator Ryan Silvey.

Without a REAL ID  compliant driver license Missourians would need passports for domestic flights beginning in January. Missouri licenses already won’t allow people to access federal buildings or military bases.

Associated Industries of Missouri supported the bill allowing Missourians a choice because of the need for business people to be able to freely travel, as well as to provide access for contractors to federal military bases.

If the governor signs the bill, those who want REAL ID compliant licenses will be able to get them, and those who feel uncomfortable will be able to opt out.
