Missouri House Speaker Todd Richardson plans to seek the Republican nomination to challenge state Auditor Nicole Galloway next year, setting up a potentially big fight for the last remaining statewide office in Jefferson City held by a Democrat. Galloway was appointed to the state auditor post in April 2015 by then-Gov. Jay Nixon, also a Democrat. She has said she is running for election to a full four-year term next year.
A Richardson spokesman confirmed this week that the speaker is preparing to run.
