The Missouri House of Representatives Wednesday gave final approval to a bill that will ensure property is assessed on what the current landowner is using it for.

Associated Industries of Missouri supported House Bill 2381, sponsored by Rep. Craig Redmon , clears up confusion on how county assessors should handle property that is available for mining, but that is not being used for that purpose.

Any information provided to a county assessor or other public entity which administers tax policies that is by law declared to be confidential, including individual taxpayer information and a specific taxpayer’s mine property, shall not be disclosed.

The bill moved through both chambers of the legislature with little opposition. The final vote on the House floor was 137-11 to send the bill to Governor Nixon.
