Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition launches in Missouri

The Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition today announced its launch in Missouri. The Coalition is an alliance of businesses, local trade associations and individuals in Missouri who are concerned about Washington’s failure to pass a common sense, pro-growth agenda for America.

“Every time Congress plays political games and creates uncertainty in the economy, businesses suffer,” said Dan Shaul, State Director of the Missouri Grocers Association and a member of the coalition. “It’s time for Congress to listen to their constituents and start making progress by passing pro-growth policies.”

The coalition’s pro-growth agenda will focus on four issues Washington lawmakers have ignored for too long: tax reform, opening new markets to U.S. products, fiscal responsibility and immigration reform. The group will educate lawmakers and Missourians about the economic benefits of these policies and illustrate the consequences of continued inaction.

“Reforming the tax code will help businesses have the confidence to invest in ways that will make the economy grow again,” said Ray McCarty, president of the Associated Industries of Missouri “And with so many businesses trying to decrease overhead costs, tax reform can’t come soon enough.”

“Missouri businesses are being held down by taxes that are too high and too complex. Instead of updating the business tax code to be flatter, fairer and simpler, Congress has long decided to do nothing,” Shaul argued. “In addition to tax reform, America’s small businesses deserve more opportunities to compete against not only domestic companies, but foreign companies as well. Increasing exports of U.S. goods and services to new markets would provide a major boost to our economy.”

Shaul, McCarty and other members of the Coalition are available to discuss tax reform and trade expansion and budget reform.
