Republican Gov. Eric Greitens took office as Missouri’s 56th governor Monday, pledging to “fight for change.” He is a first-time politician and former Navy SEAL who comes to the Capitol as “an outsider.”
“This is the people’s house,” he said. “And to those who would trouble this house for their own selfish and sinful gain, hear me now: I answer to the people. I come as an outsider, to do the people’s work.”
It is the first time a Republican governor has been paired with supermajorities in the Missouri House and Senate.
