Ford Motor Co. will shorten the usual summer shutdown at its Kansas City Assembly Plant and other facilities as it looks to keep pace with demand for its new F-150 pickup and other vehicles.
The company said it will produce nearly 40,000 additional vehicles this summer by keeping the plants open another week.
This follows a May in which Ford saw a 10 percent decrease in sales of its F-150, which the Claycomo plant produces. Ford said limited inventory of the truck hurt sales.
This marks the third consecutive year the Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker has shortened its summer break from two weeks to one.
