A small glimmer of hope for those fighting against the EPA’s Clean Power Plan.
Tuesday, Janet McCabe, the Acting Assistant Administrator for the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation announced a 45-day extension of the comment period for the proposal. The period now closes on December 1, 2014.
The extension comes after heavy pressure from politicians on Capitol Hill, to association executives across the country, as utility companies struggle to come up with plans to cut power plant emissions by 30 percent by 2030.
“An extension of the comment period for the EPA’s proposed greenhouse gas emissions regulations is a step in the right direction, but the cost and the impacts of the proposal itself are still a major concern for our over 160 members,” said Lisa Camooso Miller, a spokesperson for the Partnership for a Better Energy Future of which Associated Industries of Missouri is a member. “EPA should use these 45 days to listen seriously to the concerns of the stakeholders. Without significant changes, EPA’s proposal will threaten the availability of affordable and reliable electricity to American families and businesses.”
Our sources on Capitol Hill say the extended comment period signals that at least the agency is willing to listen to stakeholders’ thoughts on the upcoming standards. The Partnership, Associated Industries of Missouri and associations like the National Association of Manufacturers continue to encourage you to make your voices heard on the proposed standards and the damage they may do not only to your business, but to the economy as a whole.
