Business fees and “Small Business Get Off My Back Act” bill advances

The Missouri Senate has approved SB 18, Senator Will Kraus, that would waive Secretary of State fees for veteran owned or operated businesses. An amendment to the bill by Senator Denny Hoskins also adds renewal of the “Small Business Get Off My Back Act” that protects small b

usinesses from state regulations and increases in user fees.

Governor Eric Greitens issued a tweet after perfection of the bill on March 29: “Thank you to the Senators who worked hard tonight to pass an important bill that will help veterans start small businesses and create jobs.”

Another feature of the Act provides a deduction for small businesses with 25 employees or less that add jobs. A deduction of $10,000 or $20,000 per job added, depending on whether health insurance is provided or not. Both deductions require payment of at least the county average wage.

The bill now moves to the House for further consideration.
