Boeing considering major economic development project in St. Louis area

In May, Boeing announced that it was expanding its “Phantom Works” research and prototype unit. The next proposed step is “Project Voyager,” a $2 billion construction project at its north St. Louis County complex that will bring an estimated 500 jobs to the region. It will include aircraft assembly and test facilities.

This would be one of the largest defense projects in the history of this area. “This project will reinforce our dominance as a region that builds the future of aviation, creates pathways to exciting careers and showcases the pride and talent of St. Louis County,” St. Louis County Executive Sam Page said in a prepared statement Friday.

The announcement has sparked excitement among the business community that benefits from Boeing’s investment in the community. The county is also looking forward to the increase in tax revenue this expansion will create.
