Biologic substitution bill clears Senate – on to House

SB 875, sponsored by Senator Kurt Schaefer, was third read in the Senate this morning on a unanimous 32-0 vote.

The bill adopts a framework that has been adopted or is under consideration in many states, allowing pharmacists to fill a prescription order for a brand name biological product with a less expensive interchangeable biological product. The process would allow substitutions in for biologic products, similar to the way generic drugs may often be substituted for brand name drugs.

Associated Industries of Missouri supports the legislation. The bill now moves to the House for further consideration.
