AIM joins effort to educate Missourians about House Bill 253

Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM) is helping spearhead an educational effort on House Bill 253 in advance of the legislative veto override session in September.

And starting July 15, AIM will begin airing a 30 second commercial on television stations throughout the state urging Missourians to support the legislature’s attempt to override Governor Nixon’s veto of this common sense tax reduction for all Missouri citizens and businesses.

You can view the commercial here.

“It is important for Missourians to hear the real truth about the tax cut,” said Ray McCarty, president of AIM.  “The Governor is attempting to shape the state’s tax policy through coercion by holding our kids’ education and jobs of state employees hostage unless the legislature relents – a tactic employed by former Governor Bob Holden in 2004.”

“The legislature made the right call to return some of the growth in state revenues back to all taxpayers through this tax cut and our current programs are protected because of the carefully measured tax cuts contained in House Bill 253,” McCarty said.

GrowMissouri is a coalition of business and consumer groups backing the override attempt through education about Missouri’s tax history and current tax structure. To find out more about the effort, visit the GrowMissouri website here.

“The state legislature has an historic opportunity to do something for the people of Missouri that it’s never done before,” said McCarty. “Now is not the time to lose courage in the face of the threats of the governor. We encourage all Missourians to contact their state legislators and tell them they support the veto override and tax cut.”
