In a letter to The Charleston (SC) Post and Courier, NAM CEO Jay Timmons and South Carolina Chamber of Commerce President Ted Pitts wrote:
“Across South Carolina, manufacturing jobs depend on businesses selling the products they make to customers outside the United States. Over the past five years, the U.S. Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank directly supported at least $4 billion of those exports, meaning the Ex-Im Bank supported the jobs of 23,868 of those manufacturing workers. Thanks to the Ex-Im Bank, companies in South Carolina reach markets around the world, while strengthening their communities here at home.
Now those jobs could be at risk. Former Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., — someone who has long pledged to destroy the Ex-Im Bank — is the nominee to serve as its president and chairman. South Carolina’s manufacturing workers should be alarmed because nothing in Garrett’s record suggests he will be looking out for their jobs.”
Ultimately, the letter states that Garrett’s agenda is wrong for South Carolina and that his nomination should be withdrawn.
