Associated Industries of Missouri supports the bill as a way to help curb opioid abuse among workers. Missouri is the last state to adopt the PDMP.
The program allows pharmacists to know when prescriptions for the same drug are written by multiple doctors to the same patient. The practice, called “doctor shopping,” allows patients to obtain prescriptions far in excess of their legal use, leading to abuse or potential illegal resale. The prescription drug database aims to curb that abuse.
The bill now moves to the full Senate for further consideration.
