The Federal Communications Commission awarded $1.5 billion in subsidies to bring broadband to rural areas. Missouri gets $254 million of these funds, the largest amount of any state.
Missouri currently ranks 42nd in the nation in broadband availability.
The money is expected to bring broadband to more than 95,000 households and businesses.
“Nearly half of rural Missourians do not have access to high-speed broadband internet and that is a problem,” said Congressman Sam Graves, of the 6th District of Missouri. “Being connected to highspeed broadband will improve our communities in North Missouri by giving us better access to educational resources, telehealth services, precision agriculture, and additional opportunities for economic development. I have been a proud supporter of the FCC’s Connect America Fund and continually worked to ensure they target areas that need the resources most.”
