Missouri owes $11 million as part of health overhaul tax on insurers
Missouri insurers are going to be paying the Obama administration for the Affordable Care Act whether they like it or not.
According to an article from the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the tax is owed whether or not the state expanded Medicaid coverage, but the federal money that would been received through the expanded Medicaid program could have paid some part of the tab for the insurance companies. Regardless, the cost of the tax will be shared with insurance customers, which likely means higher premiums for all of us.
