Legislators, business groups, law firms and insurance companies meet to discuss tort reform
The Civil Justice Reform Group hosted a conference last Thursday and Friday in Kansas City for groups to meet and discuss tort reform. Ray McCarty, President of Associated Industries of Missouri, spoke on one of the panels.
“There is a need to work together amongst all business groups, insurance companies and law firms to accomplish common goals in tort reform,” McCarty said. “This effort is not a single year effort, but a longer term one. We have seen the success of working together and look forward to continuing to work with this coalition in the future.”
A large group attended the conference, with attendees including representatives of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform and the American Tort Reform Organization (ATRA). In addition, Governor Eric Greitens’ General Counsel, Lucinda Luetkemeyer and the governor’s Policy Director, Will Scharf were at the event.
Some legislative speakers included House Majority Leader Mike Cierpiot, Representative Kevin Corlew, Representative Joe Don McGaugh and Representative Bruce DeGroot.
