Both Kansas City and St. Louis rank among the top 10 cities in the United States for working women, according to a list by Magnify Money.
Kansas City was number 10 on the list. It has a 4.3 percent unemployment rate for women. More than 33 percent of Kansas City area businesses are owned by women, and 40.8 percent of managers are women.
St. Louis has a 4.4 unemployment rate for women. 35.2 percent of businesses are owned by women and 41 percent of mangers are women in St Louis, leading to a number 9 spot on the list.
In addition to all of these statistics, almost a third of Missouri’s lawmakers are women.
“We are proud of Missouri’s two largest cities ranking in this national listing recognizing the importance of women in business,” said Ray McCarty, president of Associated Industries of Missouri.
In creating the list, the website looked at factors, such as unemployment rates for women, median earnings gender gap, health care and parental and pregnancy workplace state protection.
