Ameren Missouri filed a proposal Monday with the Missouri Public Service Commission (MPSC) that will give electric vehicle drivers more options along Interstate 70. The project would build public charging islands on I-70 to accommodate all electric makes and models.
“Ameren Missouri acknowledges the many societal benefits associated with electric vehicles,” said Michael Moehn, president of Ameren Missouri. “They positively impact the environment, help create jobs, offer fuel and maintenance savings for EV owners, and help reduce our region’s carbon footprint.”
The project includes six “pay at the charger” islands, each featuring combinations of “fast-charging” and “standard changing” stations for public use. The goal is to alleviate “range anxiety” for electric vehicle drivers that are travelling long distances by opening the islands 20 to 45 miles apart.
The project is estimated to cost $600,000 and the first charging island is planned to be constructed this year in Boonville.
