Jefferson City, MO (May 8, 2018) – Associated Industries of Missouri is proud to announce its role in the passage of several important laws that benefit Missouri businesses.
One of these victories is the passage of a historic tax reform bill. The bill was passed in the final few hours of the Missouri legislative session.
“Associated Industries is proud of the hard work of all legislators to come up with a tax reform package that truly reduces income tax liability for Missouri businesses – both those that report their income on the corporation income tax return, and those that report their income on individual income tax returns,” said Ray McCarty, president/CEO of Associated Industries of Missouri. “We thank Sen. Koenig, Sen. Eigel, Speaker Pro Tem Elijah Haahr, Rep. Wiemann, Rep. Curtman and all others that helped make these bills a reality, as well as the hard work of AIM lobbyist Chuck Pierce without whose constant guidance these cuts would not be possible,” he said.
Another big victory was the date change for the vote on major right-to-work legislation. AIM was the only group to testify in favor of moving the date for the right-to-work vote to August. The date change passed in the House and Senate and will be going to the Governor’s desk.
“Every day that goes by that Right to Work is not the law in Missouri we miss out on more opportunities to add new facilities or additional work at existing facilities from companies that will only locate that work in Right to Work states,” Ray McCarty, president and CEO of Associated Industries of Missouri, testified at the hearing on SCR 49. “We don’t even know the opportunities we are missing because we don’t meet the initial criteria established by some companies,” he said.
In addition, there have been several other important victories for AIM and Missouri businesses, including a victory regarding laws addressing the IBM/Mastercard case, transportation funding, and legislation protecting business owners from lawsuits from trespassers.
Finally, AIM supported legislation that was a major victory for both Missouri businesses and consumers. SB 564, a bill dedicated to keeping Missouri’s energy rates competitive, while still encouraging growth and innovation and infrastructure investment. The bill will cut energy rates for consumers and save Missourians money.
