Associated Industries of Missouri is pleased with today’s vote by the Missouri House and Senate overriding Gov. Nixon’s veto of HB 339, a bill that would prohibit uninsured motorists from suing for noneconomic damages resulting from an accident with an insured motorist.
“Uninsured motorists are not legally allowed to drive,” said Ray McCarty, president of AIM. “The bill is one of several common sense measures that should have been signed into law and we are happy the legislature has enacted this law.”
Current law allows uninsured motorists to sue insured motorists for noneconomic damages – damages above their actual damages. This bill addresses this unfair situation by allowing only actual damages to uninsured motorists.
